DALLAS AMATEUR CAPTURES TEXAS WOMEN’S OPEN AT EASTERN HILLS COUNTRY CLUB

Garland, TX – Carolyn Creekmore, an amateur from Dallas, Texas captured the 2006 Texas Women’s Open with a two day total score of 140 (69-71) to finish at even par for the tournament. Creekmore overcame a one shot deficit from overnight leader Adrienne Gautreaux, Mabank Texas, to claim the title. Creekmore’s final round 71 was highlighted by a birdie on the 35th hole of the Championship which gave her a two shot lead heading into the final hole. Gautreaux’s par on the difficult 18th hole was not enough to force a playoff, as Creekmore seized her first Texas Women’s Open title by rolling in a short bogey putt.

Adrienne Gautreaux and Suzanne Fisher, Broken ArrowOklahoma, tied for the low professional honors with two day total scores of 141. The 29 professionals in the field were competing for a share of the $7,500.00 purse with Gautreaux and Fisher each taking home $1,450.00.

In addition to overall champion and low amateur Carolyn Creekmore, four other amateurs were recognized with awards for their fine play during the Championship. Amateurs Kimberly Meck, Austin, Texas, Kate Ackerson, Allen, Texas, Allison Martin, San Antonio, Texas and Julia Best, Bulverde Texas finished in the top five of the amateur division.

Past champions of the Texas Women’s Open include Babe Zaharias (1951 & 52), Betsy Rawls (1953 & 54), and Tara Bateman (2001 & 02). Creekmore will attempt to join this elite group of two-time champions in 2007 by successfully defending her title.

The 36-hole stroke play event featured a field of 87 top playing professionals and amateurs competing at Eastern Hills Country Club located in Garland, Texas. The 6,104 yard, par 70 layout has played host to the Texas Women’s Open since 2001.
