WILLIAMS LEADS AFTER FIRST ROUND OF THE E-Z-GO EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP

Richardson, TX – Chad Williams, head golf professional at Corsicana Country Club, leads the first round of the E-Z-GO Eastern Championship after firing a 5-under par 67 (33-34) this morning. Williams carded five birdies during his bogey free first round to take a one shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round. Williams leads Larry Bryan, head golf professional at Big Spring Country Club, after Bryan opened the first round of the Championship with a bogey free round of his own for a 4-under par 68 (35-33). Williams and Bryan will need to continue their strong play during tomorrow’s final round as three other competitors sit only three shots back of the lead. There are currently 17 players at par or better heading into the final round.

This 36-hole NTPGA major championship is the first of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Cleveland Golf / Club Car NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge, and serves as a qualifier for the 2007 Texas Joe Black Cup and James P. Jordan Cup teams. The E-Z-GO Eastern Championship features a field of 105 NTPGA Members and Apprentices competing at Sherrill Park Golf Course (#1) in Richardson.

The golf professionals are competing for a share of the $31,710.00 purse with the champion taking home $4,000.00 for first place. Round two is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. with tee times off of the number one tee with the leaders teeing off at 1:03 p.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend the final round of the Championship.

The E-Z-GO Eastern Championship is presented by Body Balance for Performance, Bridgestone Golf, Pepsi-Cola, Pukka Headwear and SkyCaddie.
