GARRETT LEADS AFTER FIRST ROUND OF FINA NTPGA SENIORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
FORT WORTH, Texas – Bill Garrett, PGA Life Member, sits atop the leader board at the FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship after firing a 3-under par 69 during today’s first round. Garrett got off to a strong start with birdies on three of his first five holes en route to a 3-under par 33 on the front nine. Garrett leads Billy Harris, head golf professional at Dallas Country Club, Dick Goetz, PGA Life Member, and Kirk Lewis, assistant golf professional at Stevens Park Golf Course, by one shot heading into tomorrow’s final round. Past champions Perry Arthur, Tom Strueber and Michael Hurley are all within four shots of the leader. Arthur and Strueber shot rounds of even par 72 while Hurley finished today’s round at one over-par 73. After round one, there are nine players at even par or better heading into tomorrow’s final round.
The FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship is a 36-hole stroke play event being contested at Hawks Creek Golf Club, a 6,870-yard, par 72 layout located in Fort Worth, Texas. The 26-player field is competing for a total purse of $3,820.00, with $1,000.00 awarded to the overall champion.
Qualifying for the 2007 Callaway Golf Senior PGA Professional National Championship is being held in conjunction with the FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship. The top five players attempting to qualify will represent the Northern Texas PGA Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship on October 18-21, 2007 at The PGA Golf Club in Port St.Lucie, Florida.
The FINA Northern Texas PGA Seniors’ Championship is sponsored by FINA.
Round two will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.
