38th Texas State Open at The Cascades Seven Contestants Qualify for 38th Texas State Open at The Cascades
Kevin Newman, Conroe, Texas, Bryan Lach (a), The Woodlands, Texas, Greg Sonnier, Lake Charles, Louisiana, Alan Johnson, Pasadena, Texas, Michael Brice, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Ryan Haselden (a), Houston, Texas and B.C. Thibeaux III (a), Lafayette, Louisiana all successfully qualified at Cypresswood Golf Club (Tradtion) in Spring, Texas for the 38th Texas State Open at The Cascades. The 38th Texas State Open at The Cascades is scheduled for Thursday, July 17 – Sunday, July 20 at The Cascades in Tyler, Texas. The 72-hole stroke play event will consist of 156 professionals and amateurs playing for an estimated purse of $125,000.00. The field will play 36 holes before being cut to the low 55 scores and ties. All four rounds will be contested at The Cascades. Unless otherwise exempt, professionals and amateurs shall gain access into the Texas State Open via an 18-hole qualifying event conducted at 23 sites in Texas and surrounding states during the month of June and July.
The field will be comprised of successful qualifiers and the following exempt players, if they choose to participate: past champions; the top 15 professionals and top three amateurs from the 2007 Texas State Open; the top 25 players from both the Northern Texas and Southern Texas PGA 2007 Player of the Year standings; PGA Tour members who reside in the state of Texas; the championship host professional; the 2008 Texas State Amateur Champion; the ten leading money winners on the 2008 NTPGA Players Tour; 2007 Texas Legends Junior Tour Boys 15-18 Player of the Year; the 2008 Tylerpaper.com Junior Champion; the 2008 Tyler City Champion; and the top amateur and professional on the 2008 Senior Associates’ Tour Points List at the conclusion of event number four. Also, the first 10 professionals with a three person amateur team for the Tuesday, July 15th UST Texas State Open Pro-Am will receive an exemption.
The 38th Texas State Open at The Cascades is presented by Ashworth, KETK NBC 56, Park Cities Bank, and Residence Inn Marriott and UST.
