JOHNS LEADS AFTER FIRST ROUND OF THE E-Z-GO EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP

Richardson, TX – Travis Johns, assistant golf professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, leads the first round of the E-Z-Go Eastern Championship after firing a 2-under par 70 (34-36) this morning. Johns carded four birdies during his first round to take a one shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round. Johns leads six other professionals who shot 1-under par 71 which include Cameron Doan, head golf professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, Michael Henderson, head golf professional at Stevens Park Golf Course, Troy Denton, assistant golf professional at Stevens Park Golf Course, John Sikes, director of instruction at Hollytree Country Club and Chad Williams, head golf professional at Corsicana Country Club. There are currently 9 players at par or better heading into the final round.

This 36-hole NTPGA major championship is the first of four individual stroke play events that comprise the Cleveland Golf / Club Car NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge, and serves as a qualifier for the 2008 Texas Joe Black Cup and James P. Jordan Cup teams. The E-Z-GO Eastern Championship features a field of 100 NTPGA Members and Apprentices competing at Sherrill Park Golf Course (#1) in Richardson.

The golf professionals are competing for a share of the $31,500.00 purse with the champion taking home $4,100.00 for first place. Round two is scheduled to start at 7:20 a.m. with tee times off of the number one tee with the leaders teeing off at 1:10 p.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend the final round of the Championship.

The E-Z-GO Eastern Championship is presented by Bridgestone Golf, Byron Nelson Apparel, Gill Barnett Golf, Heritage Creations, Pepsi-Cola and Pukka Headwear.
