FIFTEEN-YEAR OLD AMATEUR TANYA WADHWA SHOOTS A FINAL ROUND 67 TO CAPTURE THE TEXAS WOMEN’S OPEN BY ONE
 
Garland, TX – Fifteen-year old amateur Tanya Wadhwa of McKinney, Texas fired a three-under par round of 67 to win the Texas Women’s Open by one shot. Tanya began the day two shots behind leaders Jennifer Park and Marilyn Hardy; however she quickly made up those shots on her front nine with birdies on holes three and five. The back nine proved even better for the young amateur with three birdies, one of which was on number eighteen to claim the Championship. Adrienne McDonald of The Golf Channel’s Big Break Ka’anapali was the low professional, finishing in second place for the overall Championship and taking home a check for $2,000.00. Defending champion, Shannon Fish, shot the low round of the tournament, 66, to finish at one-over par to claim second place amateur honors while also finishing third overall. Anna Schultz of Rockwall, Texas finished in a tie with Carrie Morris of Tyler, Texas for third place amateur honors. Schultz shot a final round 69 to Morris’s 71 to claim third place amateur honors.           
 
The 36-hole stroke play event featured a field of 108 top playing professionals and amateurs competing at Eastern Hills Country Club located in Garland, Texas. The 6,104-yard, par 70 layout has played host to the Texas Women’s Open since 2001.
 
The 31 professionals in the field are competed for a share of the $10,000.00 purse with the professional champion taking home $2,000.00 for first place. The top three amateurs were also recognized and awarded crystal trophies for their outstanding play. 
 
The 2008 Texas Women’s Open at Eastern Hills Country Club benefited the New Beginning Center in Garland. The center exists to foster an environment of safety, support and respect for families affected by domestic violence. The vision of the New Beginning Center is to promote social change that will lead to the elimination of domestic violence.
 
The 2008 Texas Women’s Open at Eastern Hills Country Club was presented by Cutter & Buck, Eastern Hills Country Club, Iron Horse Safety Specialties, Prestige Wine Cellars, Sheils Winnubst Law Firm, Tin Star Services, Inc. and TMAK, INC.
