PERRY ARTHUR CAPTURES HIS FIFTH NTPGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Perry Arthur, teaching professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, won his fifth NTPGA Professional Championship in a four hole playoff. Arthur was joined in the playoff by Jeff Hughes, assistant golf professional at Twin Rivers Golf Club, and Cameron Doan, head golf professional at Preston Trail Golf Club. Doan made bogey on the first playoff hole while Arthur and Hughes both made par. Arthur and Hughes battled for two more holes with each making par. On the fourth playoff hole Arthur sank his birdie putt on the 238-yard par 3, fifteenth hole to capture the title. Arthur (70-67), Hughes (66-71) and Doan (69-68) all finished at 5-under par for the Championship after 36-holes. Hughes and Doan both birdied the eighteenth hole to secure their spot in the playoff against Arthur, whom at the time was the leader in the clubhouse. Arthur won his first NTPGA Professional Championship in 1992 with his most recent victory in 2004.
Arthur will lead ten PGA professionals from the Northern Texas Section to the PGA Professional National Championship at Twin Warriors Golf Club and Santa Ana Golf Club, Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico to be held on June 28 – July 1, 2009. Joining Arthur will be Cameron Doan, head golf professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, Jeff Hughes, assistant golf professional at Twin Rivers Golf Club, Lindy Miller, director of golf at Mira Vista Country Club, Travis Johns, assistant golf professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, Larry Bryan, head golf professional at Big Spring Country Club, Jamie Elliot, director of instruction at Bridlewood Golf Club and Troy Lewis, director of instruction at Prestonwood Country Club.
Bruce Smith, assistant golf professional at Fazio at Stonebriar and Vince Jewell, assistant golf professional at Brook Hollow Golf Club finished in the top 20 in the 2008 PGA Professional Championship at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Georgia to earn exempt status into the 2009 PGA Professional Championship. The top 20 players from the 2009 PGA National Professional Championship will compete in the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club, Chaska, Minnesota.
This 36-hole NTPGA Section major championship is the third of the four individual stroke play championships that comprise the Cleveland Golf / Club Car NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge, as well as a qualifier for points to make the 2008 Texas Joe Black Cup team. Titliest/FootJoy/ Cobra, Club Car and the PGA Tour are the proud sponsors of the event that was conducted at Mira Vista Country Club on the 6,967 yard par 71 layout located in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship featured 110 Section members who competed for the $27,500.00 purse with Arthur taking home $3,500.00.
