JEFF HUGHES AND JAMIE ELLIOTT SHARE THE LEAD AT THE NTPGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Jeff Hughes, assistant golf professional at Twin Rivers Golf Club, and Jamie Elliot, director of instruction at Bridlewood Golf Club, share the lead at the 2008 Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship after firing 5-under par 66 for their first rounds. Elliot managed to play well the entire day with only one bogey on the par-3 seventh. His stellar play really began on the back nine where he recorded five pars and four birdies. Hughes played impressively with a bogey free round with two birdies on the front nine and three birdies on the back nine.

Chris Brown, head golf professional at Mira Vista Country Club, and Larry Bryan, head golf professional at Big Spring Country Club, are tied for third at 4-under par for the Championship.

Defending champion Chad Williams, head golf professional at Corsicana Country Club, is six shots off the lead after posting a 1-over par round of 72. Williams will certainly need a round in the mid-sixties tomorrow in order to contend for the title.

This 36-hole NTPGA Section major championship is the third of the four individual stroke play championships that comprise the Cleveland Golf / Club Car NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge, as well as a qualifier for points to make the 2008 Texas Joe Black Cup team. Titliest/FootJoy/ Cobra, Club Car and the PGA Tour are the proud sponsors of the event being conducted at Mira Vista Country Club on the 6,967 yard par 71 layout located in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship features 110 Section members competing for the $27,500.00 purse with the champion taking home $3,500.00. Contestants are also competing for the 8 exemptions into the PGA National Professional Championship on Sunday June 28 – Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Twin Warriors Golf Club and Santa Ana Golf Club, Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico. The top 20 players from the 2008 PGA National Professional Championship will compete in the 91^th PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club, Chaska, Minnesota.

Round two will commence at 8:00 a.m. with the leaders starting at 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday.
