GARRETT LEADS AFTER FIRST ROUND OF FINA NTPGA SENIORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
ANNA, Texas – Bill Garrett, PGA Life Member, sits atop the leader board at the FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship after firing a 5-under par 67 during today’s first round. Garrett put together a bogey free round with five birdies and thirteen pars with a front nine score of 2-under par 34 and a back nine score of 3-under par 33.
Garrett leads Greg Antunes, head golf professional at Stonetree Golf Club, Perry Arthur, teaching professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, and Mickey Piersall, head golf professional at L.B. Houston Golf Course by one shot heading into tomorrow’s final round.
Defending champion, Lindy Miller posted an opening round of 1-over par 73 and is currently six shots off the pace. Past champions in the field include Perry Arthur, Michael Hurley and Tom Strueber who are all within six shots of the leader. Arthur shot an opening round 4-under par 68 while Hurley sits at 2-under par 70 and Strueber sits at 1-over par 73. After round one, there are ten players at even par or better heading into tomorrow’s final round.
The FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship is a 36-hole stroke play event being contested at Hurricane Creek Country Club, a 7,027-yard, par 72 layout located in Anna, Texas. The 31-player field is competing for a total purse of $4,200.00, with $1,200.00 awarded to the overall champion.
Qualifying for the 2008 Callaway Golf Senior PGA Professional National Championship is being held in conjunction with the FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship. The top four players plus the champion if attempting to qualify will represent the Northern Texas PGA Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship on October 2-5, 2008 at Toscana Country Club, Indian Wells, California and Andalusia Country Club, La Quinta, California.
The FINA Northern Texas PGA Seniors’ Championship is sponsored by FINA.
Round two will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
