GREG ANTUNES CAPTURES FINA NTPGA SENIORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP
ANNA, Texas – Greg Antunes, head golf professional at Stonetree Golf Club, fired his second consecutive round of 68 in round two of the FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship to win by three shots. Antunes began the day one stroke behind PGA Life Member, Bill Garrett, who was the overnight leader. Antunes opened with a 3-under par, 33 on the front nine giving him a two shot lead heading into his final nine. His strong play continued on the back nine with a closing 1-under par, 35 for a two round total of 8-under par, 136. Antunes took home the first place prize of $1,200.00.
Finishing in second place at 5-under par, 139 was Bill Garrett, followed by Perry Arthur, teaching professional at Sherrill Park Golf Course, at 4-under par, 140. Both players shot even par in round two of the Championship.
Joining Antunes at the 2008 Callaway Golf Senior PGA Professional National Championship will be Bill Garrett, Michael Hurley, head golf professional at Grayson County College Golf Course, Benny Passons, PGA Life Member, and David Foster, head golf professional at Denton Country Club along with Perry Arthur who was already exempt into the Championship via making the cut at the 69th Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, Rochester, New York.
The FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship is a 36-hole stroke play event contested at Hurricane Creek Country Club, a 7,027-yard, par 72 layout located in Anna, Texas. The 31-player field competed for a total purse of $4,200.00, with $1,200.00 awarded to the overall champion.
Qualifying for the 2008 Callaway Golf Senior PGA Professional National Championship was held in conjunction with the FINA NTPGA Seniors’ Championship. The top four players plus the champion if attempting to qualify will represent the Northern Texas PGA Section at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship on October 2-5, 2008 at Toscana Country Club, Indian Wells, California and Andalusia Country Club, La Quinta, California.
