CHRISTINA LECUYER LEADS THE TEXAS WOMEN’S OPEN AT EASTERN HILLS COUNTRY CLUB

AFTER ROUND ONE

 

Garland, TX – Christina Lecuyer of Conway, Arkansas fired a 2-under par, 68 in round one to lead the Texas Women’s Open by one shot.  Lecuyer started on hole #10 and shot an impressive 2-under par, 33.  Her back nine proved not as steady, but still successful as three birdies, three pars and three bogies led to an even-par, 35.  Katy Jarochowicz of Australia fired a 1-under par, 69 to finish the day at solo second place.  Jarochowicz started on hole #1 and shot a two-over par, 37 on her front nine.   Four birdies and one bogey on her back nine led to a three-under par, 32.  Tied for third place are Dawn Shockley of Glen Haven, Colorado and Tara Goedeken of Dodge City, Kansas.

 

2008 Texas Women’s Open champion Tanya Wadhwa shot a five-over par, 75 setting herself seven shots behind the leader.  Other past champions in the field include Carolyn Creekmore of Dallas, Texas who shot 8-over par, 78, Lori Sutherland-Tate of Fort Worth, Texas who shot six-over par, 76 and Mina Hardin of Fort Worth, Texas that shot a four-over par, 74.

 

The 36-hole stroke play event featured a field of 132 top playing professionals and amateurs competing at Eastern Hills Country Club located in Garland, Texas.  The 6,104-yard, par 70 layout has played host to the Texas Women’s Open since 2001.

 

The 43 professionals in the field are competing for a share of the $14,000.00 purse with the professional champion taking home $3,000.00 for first place.  The 89 amateurs are competing for crystal trophies for those who finish in the top three as well as gift certificates for those finishing in the top five. 

 

The 2009 Texas Women’s Open at Eastern Hills Country Club is benefiting the New Beginning Center in Garland.  The center exists to foster an environment of safety, support and respect for families affected by domestic violence.  The vision of the New Beginning Center is to promote social change that will lead to the elimination of domestic violence.

 

The 2009 Texas Women’s Open at Eastern Hills Country Club is presented by Iron Horse Safety Specialties, Prestige Wine Cellars, Sheils Winnubst Law Firm, Tin Star Services, Inc., and Sport Haley.
