LOVING AND DRESSER LEAD THE FIELD HEADING INTO ROUND THREE OF THE
39TH CHESAPEAKE ENERGY TEXAS STATE OPEN
DALLAS, Texas – San Antonio’s Matt Loving and Carrollton’s Andrew Dresser will lead the field heading into round three of the 39th Chesapeake Energy Texas State Open at 8-under par, 132. Loving, the 2007 Texas State Open Champion, struggled on the greens but managed to card three straight birdies to close at 4-under par, 66 for round 2. “I like this course, it fits me well,” said Loving, who had his wife caddie for him again this year. Loving has had a good year so far with five top ten finishes on the Adams Golf Tour as well as making the cut at the Valero Texas Open. Dresser, who maintained the lead throughout the day, held on to the momentum and carded five birdies to finish tied for first. Dresser is competing in his third Texas State Open and has had finishes of solo third in 2007 and a tie for fifteenth in 2008.
Tied for third with rounds of seven-under par, 133 are Matthew Rosenfeld of Plano, Martin Flores of Dallas, Randy Lowry of Spring, and Matthew Stephens of Mont Belvieu. Stephens is currently playing college golf at the University of Texas at Tyler and is the low amateur through round two. Mikel Martinson of Lubbock shot the low round of the day with a six-under par, 64. He played college golf at New Mexico Jr. College and Wayland Baptist University and currently competes on the Adams Golf Tour.
The 72-hole stroke play event consists of 144 contestants. Following round two, the field will be cut to 55 players comprised of 47 professionals and 8 amateurs. All four rounds will be contested at The Cascades, a 6,918 yard, par 70 layout located in Tyler, TX. The total estimated purse is $125,000.00, with $25,000.00 awarded to the champion.
The 39th Chesapeake Energy Texas State Open is presented by Joyce Crane, Sleep Inn and Suites, TaylorMade-adidas Ashworth, and UST Mamiya.
